I've been fortunate enough to have a bunch of record release dates over the years-33 by my rough count--but as of Friday, August 30, I'll be a published author for the first time with the publication of my memoir "I Wouldn't Say It If It Wasn't True" on Jawbone Press. The book is my tale of growing up in LA, discovering music as a fan, songwriter and musician and then forming The Dream Syndicate. I detail the band's quick rise, the ensuing potholes and pitfalls and then the tenacious salvaging before breaking up in 1988. Plenty of friends and famous folks along the way. You can find the book wherever you like to shop-or signed and personalized on my Bandcamp page. Or, hey, you can just pick one up at a show while I'm on tour but more about that later.
Not coincidentally, August 30 is also the release date of my new album "Make It Right," my first solo release in over a decade. I say "not coincidentally" because the songs tie in with the book, having been written and recorded while scribing my various exploits. The album starts with "Santa Monica," the city and street where I was born and ends with "Roosevelt Avenue," the main thoroughfare of the Queens, NY neighborhood I call home today. The LP and CD are available via Fire Records or at your local shop or streaming site as well as at the merch table when I come to town.
And that tour! I'll be on the road starting with 9 shows in the UK this month before moving on to 20 more in the US in October. And then a short breather before a solid 4 months of touring in 2025-along the West Coast of the US and shows across Europe. Those 2025 gigs will be announced in the coming weeks, but you can find more info and ticket links for the UK and US shows on my own touring page of the WynnWeb (big thanks as always to web geek DG!) as well as Bandsintown, Songkick, Eventbrite or directly from the venues.
And after the book and album releases and about 100+ shows, I'll probably be needing a little break and what better way to decompress than with a guitar in my hand, rolling across the high seas on the Sirius XM Underground Garage Cruise with a bunch of my pals. The cruise lineup is jam packed with garage goodness and there are still a few berths left on the big boat. I'll be rocking out sets with: The Baseball Project, my solo combo The Miracle 3, Lenny Kaye's Nuggets revue and Scott McCaughey's ever-changing Minus 5.
It's an exciting time and I sincerely hope to see you all somewhere along the road. In the meantime, stay cool, stay hydrated and enjoy the rest of your summer, everybody.
Yer pal,
Steve Wynn
