Hey, how 'bout that year?

After the relative dormancy of the bulk of 2020 and 2021, it was nice to be back on the road playing shows in the US and Europe with The Dream Syndicate, dropping into various living rooms and folk clubs with my acoustic guitar and, for the first time in almost a decade, stepping into a recording studio with The Baseball Project. It's hard to say what "normal" is anymore but the last year felt close enough for creative comfort.

And with any luck, some spit and chewing gum and the ability to pivot and maneuver on a dime, there will be more ahead in 2023.

My year starts off with two weeks of solo acoustic touring in Italy and more solo club shows up ahead in Spain, Scandinavia as well as my first European house (haus?) concert tour in Germany, all later in the year.

The Dream Syndicate will tour the UK in March along with a duo acoustic version of Rain Parade (Matt Piucci and Steven Roback) opening the shows and Vicki Peterson of the Bangles and Continental Drifters joining our combo as a sub for Jason Victor. Some serious paisley fun shall ensue.

And there's also a wonderful 4CD box set of The Days of Wine and Roses coming out in March, masterfully compiled by Pat Thomas.

The Baseball Project's new album comes out in June and we're sure to be hitting the road throughout the summer. As I often joke, it's my only band that plays stadiums. We made the record with Mitch Easter at his North Carolina studio last May and it was a thrill to work with one of my musical heroes.

Oh, and it seems I've gone over a decade since my last solo album. I'm going to do something about ending that streak sometime this year as well.

Most of all, it's been great to get out there and seeing so many of you in the last 12 months. If it's true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, then it was one heck of a very fond year.

Take care, everyone, and see you in '23.
